Among her many wonderful reviews for her recent performances of Anna Bolena in London, “This opera masterpiece requires exceptional performers to make it work and Julie Unwin (Anna) is the real deal. Of her Tosca performances in London, Opera magazine said “I don’t think I have heard a British Tosca singing so well. She has the blade-like edge the role requires, with a penetrating chest voice and gleaming high notes.” Her voice was described as having “a generous gleam, impeccable intonation…..she shaped the Tosca arias exquisitely. Her vocal composure is admirable” (Independent)
As Butterfly at Holland Park her “limpid, rich-toned voice soars into thrilling reservoirs of power in the upper register” (Opera). Her Countess, Marriage of Figaro, a role she sang for Glyndebourne Touring Opera and in the London Festivals, suggested she was in "absolute control of her considerable vocal resourses" singing the role with " gracious ease"(Opera ).

Further successful operatic performances have included Mimi, Opera Zuid, Netherlands, Alice, Falstaff, ETO, Micaela Carmen, for Welsh National Opera and at RAH; Pamina The Magic Flute for English National Opera; Anna (Don Giovanni) GTO; Nancy Silas Marner for Graham Vick’s new production for the City of Birmingham Touring Opera; and Tatyana Eugene Onegin for Stowe Opera and Holland Park Opera where her "intelligent Tatyana" and "warm vibrant soprano paced the role ideally, the voice in full refulgent flood" (Opera).

Notable among Julie’s concert performances are L’Enfance du Christ with the Helsinki Philharmonic and the Northern Synfonia ;Beethoven 9th and Mahler’s 2nd Symphony with Helsinki Philharmonic and the London Philharmonic. Recordings include, Cleone in Ermione for Glydebourne for Channel 4 and L’Incoronazione di Poppea for Welsh National Opera for the BBC.

During her operatic career Julie has received some of the most distinguished awards in the vocal field. She was the first recipient of the Harold Rosenthal Opera Award; additionally received both the John Christie Award from Glyndebourne Festival Opera and the Young Esso Singer’s Award from Glyndebourne Touring Opera.

Over the years Julie has sung at many special occasions in London and abroad, including several times for members of the Royal family . She is often asked to sing at society and celebrity weddings and parties, as well as special guest on several cruise lines and BBC radio Entertainment programmes.

Next year Julie will sing the title role in Donizetti’s Anna Bolena for English Touring Opera.
